WHO WE ARE
OUR HISTORY
1970
The Potter’s House was birthed in a time known as the Jesus People Movement, a Christian revival (historically referred to as a spiritual awakening) that swept through America in the early 1970’s. The founding pastor, Wayman Mitchell, had just taken over the church in Prescott, Arizona. Pastor Mitchell had a vision to see his local church make an impact in that community. As they began to share the Gospel on the streets, God began to move in that town and the church experienced tremendous growth. It wasn’t long before Pastor Mitchell and the Prescott church wanted to plant a church that would replicate exactly what they were doing to have an even greater impact. In 1973, Prescott planted its first church and today the Potter’s House Christian Fellowship has spread across the globe. What began as a local church in a small town of America has now become a movement all over the world.
The name comes from an Old Testament verse of the Bible: Jeremiah 18:2 ‘Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear my words.’
1978 Perth, WA – First Overseas Church Planted
In 1978, a couple from the Prescott church was sent to Perth to begin a new church, following the pattern that had been set in Prescott of evangelism, discipleship and church planting. Since then, that one church launched into Perth has grown into a large congregation and is the mother church of the Australian fellowship, holding an annual Bible conference. Today there are over 200 churches that trace their roots back to this one church.
1979 Darwin, NT
Pastor Neil Prosser and his wife Brenda arrived in Darwin in 1979 after leaving behind their farm in Katanning, WA. Ps Prosser soon became the senior pastor, and a short time later, and with much prayer, made the decision to align himself and the Darwin church with what God was doing through Ps Mitchell and The Potter’s House Fellowship. Only eternity will reveal the multitude of lives that have been changed as a direct result of this faithful congregation investing in the nations for the sake of the Gospel.
2024 Mackay, QLD
The Potter’s House Mackay was established in 2024 as an extension of the Darwin church. Originally from Darwin, Pastor Adam and Jayne Woods moved to Mackay with a desire to reach people with the hope of Jesus. Adam was previously the pastor of The Potter’s House Church in Merrylands and then he and his family served in Vietnam as missionaries for five years.

OUR VISION
Evangelism
The Gospel taken outside the four walls is the absolute foundation of our church, in obedience to Mark 16:15 And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature’… We emphasize personal evangelism, and a large variety of outreaches to share the Gospel.
Conversion
We witness, testify and preach for a decision. The Gospel has the power to save and transform lives. 1 Peter 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever… The bulk of our congregation consists of people converted here by the Power of God.
Discipleship
God intends for calling to Him, and for Him, to be accomplished through being trained and equipped within the setting of a local church. Therefore, the highest calling of a Pastor and congregation is to obey God’s command in Matthew 28:19-20 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Church Planting
The result of disciples being raised up is that they be released into the harvest field. Matthew 9:37-38 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
We send couples to plant brand new congregations, with the aim of reproducing our vision in a new area.
The Local Church
God has placed everything necessary to accomplish His will in the setting of the local church. Ephesians 1:22-23 …the church. Which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. God’s will is accomplished in us and through us as we connect and commit ourselves to a local church.
World Evangelism
From the earliest Bible record, God’s vision is worldwide testimony and impact. The gospel message and the vision God has revealed to us is not simply American, but God-inspired; so therefore it works, and is relevant in every nation and culture of the world. Mark 16:15 all the world/every person…Matthew 28:19 all the nations… Our job as believers, and as the local church is to pray, train, invest, send and support workers to go into all the world!
